About the iGS Service

The iGS or information Gas Station is Helsinki City Library's reference service on the web. Use of the service is free of charge. You can send your question on any subject through our web page. The questions will be answered within two weeks. The answer is sent to your e-mail and it is saved in our archive. We cannot reply to your question by e-mail if you do not include a valid e-mail address. However, if you wish you may still send your question without including an e-mail address.

We provide information and sources of information for our users. We give guidance in information seeking, and we aim to bring a little delight to our users as well.

Our answers are based on sources available to us. These sources include, but are not limited to, library collections, databases, the Internet and expert help. If we cannot find an answer we will give suggestions on where to look for one.

The questions and answers are stored in a public archive, so they are available to all. The iGS editorial board also reserves the right to refrain from publishing any question and its corresponding answer.

The iGS archive contains answers since the year 2001.  Not all the material in the archive is up to date. We welcome feedback about our answers. Please note that not all feedback can be answered.

All questions are handled confidentially. Your contact information will be used only for replying purposes.

The eLibrary Unit of the Helsinki City Library is responsible for the development and maintenance of the service. Please leave your feedback about the service with the Helsinki City Library feedback form.
